King Salman Armed Forces Hospital achieved SRC accreditation as the world’s first Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Revisional Surgery. This prestigious recognition highlights the hospital’s unwavering dedication to delivering the highest quality patient care and safety standards.
Dually accredited as a Center of Excellence in both Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Bariatric Revisional Surgery, King Salman Armed Forces Hospital and its accredited Surgeons of Excellence are leading the way in weight loss care. Along with the hospital, Drs. Hussam Adi and Talal Kamel Khwaiter have been accredited as Surgeons of Excellence in both programs.
Dr. Hussam has been an SRC-accredited Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery since 2021, a distinction bestowed upon an elite group of highly skilled surgeons worldwide. Through SRC’s rigorous inspection process, both Dr. Hussam and Dr. Khwaiter have demonstrated their expertise, dedication, and commitment to a global standard of excellence in patient care and were instrumental in earning this accreditation. The facility’s comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to bariatric and weight loss surgery is a testament to achieving this distinction.
“Upon accreditation, our center has become the first center of the Ministry of Defense Health Services (MODHS) in Saudi Arabia to receive this recognition. This has helped us to advance and become a training center for the Fellowship Program in Bariatric Surgery (accredited by Saudi Commission for Health Specializations),” said Dr. Hussam Adi, Director of the Surgical Resident Training Program and Head of the Bariatric & Advanced Laparoscopic Unit at King Salman Armed Forces Hospital.

The path to achieving SRC accreditation involves an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure compliance with its internationally recognized high standards for patient care. These requirements encompass surgical volumes, advanced facility equipment, clinical pathways, standardized operating procedures, patient education, and ongoing quality assessment. As part of the process, SRC inspectors educate staff on best practices to enhance care and services. More than a certificate or stamp of approval, SRC’s accreditations are ongoing partnerships with accredited providers, providing support, quality improvement, analytics and compliance inspections, ensuring consistent continuation of adherence to SRC’s global standards for high-quality patient care.
“Our patient care philosophy is to treat our patients as if they are family members. We guarantee 24-hour coverage and services for bariatric surgery patients, including weekend operations and care for patients who have regained weight or suffered from complications of their previous procedures outside our hospital,” added Dr. Hussam Adi.
