Dr. David Rosen, FRANZCOG is an SRC accredited Surgeon of Excellence in Multidisciplinary Endometriosis Care and in Minimally Invasive Gynecology at Center of Excellence St. George Private Hospital in New South Wales, Australia. Find out what one of the leading industry experts had to say when SRC asked him a few questions regarding his work with endometriosis care.
What drew you to this field?
I was drawn to the care of patients with endometriosis because of the need for surgeons expert in advanced pelvic dissection and the management of patients with complex pain and fertility needs over the course of a long-term problem.
What does your SRC accreditation mean for your patients?
My SRC accreditation recognizes the benefits a surgeon skilled in advanced excisional surgery for endometriosis brings compared with those of a generalist. Endometriosis surgery and care has been regarded as something that any gynecologist can manage for far too long and only recently has the realization occurred that it requires specialist centers with multidisciplinary care.
What would you tell someone who maybe hasn’t sought treatment for endometriosis yet?
Endometriosis patients typically put off the diagnosis for many years, either because of fear of surgery or because they are told by their friends, relatives or even a medical practitioner that the pain is all in their head. Young women suffer needlessly for many years until they are finally diagnosed and treated. In addition, endometriosis is a progressive condition and every month that passes without treatment potentially makes the disease that much worse. See an accredited endometriosis specialist and get an opinion as soon as possible.
What is one of your greatest achievements related to endometriosis care?
The satisfaction of being surgically capable of safely excising even the most advanced pelvic endometriosis and the relief that can bring to my patients is my most satisfying achievement in endometriosis care.
